Last week Jacob came over to Bridget while she was laying on the couch relaxing. He had been playing on his own, a new trend, and he looked bewildered. Suddenly he grabbed her arm and said “poopy”. He then proceeded to poop his brains out with loud grunts and a red face. It was quite funny and Bridget and I each had a good laugh.
Later that night I was giving Jacob a bath and he stood up at the end. He repeated his “poopy” line from earlier and then began to – well you know. Luckily I got him out of the tub and onto the changing table before the poop reared its ugly head (so to speak).
This got us thinking. Is Jacob ready for potty training? He’s still only 21 months old, but maybe he is sending us a sign. Bridget decided to give it a shot and see if introducing a potty would make an impact on the little man. She picked up one that played music when you supplied a gift to the center spot.
To date, Jacob will only sit on the thing fully dressed and in a diaper. When on the potty naked, he runs off and looks ready to poop on the floor more willingly. We may have started introducing this with lots more attempts ahead of us.
The boy is showing new found independence though. He insists on climbing the stairs himself. He gets up and down from the couch or bed with little help. He also wants to be carried less and walks on his own from the front door to the car. We’ve yet to go to the mall since the holidays, but it should be interesting.
Time will tell what the potty brings. So far, a fully dressed Jacob isn’t making that independent leap yet.
